Not Popular

– “In a time of universal deceit – telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”
– “The further a society drifts from truth the more it will hate those who speak it.”

George Orwell

Truth is not a popular good
not many people are in the mood
to confront and accept a truth which pains
revulsion, rejection’s in all their veins.
Nobody likes a mirror to the face
when it reveals neither beauty nor grace
but an image filled with ugly scars
slain by hatred and by wars.
Truth will certainly hurt their pride
and eventually with all its might
will destroy the notion they share
with many of those for whom they care
that their land is of an extraordinary kind,
a blessing on all of humanity’s mind.
When politicians and TV men state
how great their country is, how great
when rattling sables and armed to the teeth,
in admiration they barely can breath
watching bombs and missiles dropped on the small
and weak and helpless, that’s when they feel tall
Truth’s reality will hurt their soul
but it’s necessary to reach the goal
of finally finding for peace a way,
a peace that’ll spread, a peace that’ll stay.
